About the Philadelphia Salon
The Philadelphia Salon is an art collective that conjoins some of the City’s finest artists. The collective is the brainchild of artist and innovator, Caryn Kunkle. Paying homage to the great thinkers of the past, Kunkle reinvented the idea of a Salon, or a place where intellectuals could gather and host a dialogue to understand and advance a particular subject. In Kunkle’s world, the subject is art. In 2008, Kunkle began hosting the Philadelphia Salon’s monthly meetings in one of Philadelphia’s finest pieces of lost architecture, one of the old Baron Mansions on North Broad Street. The meetings allow Philadelphia Salon artists to articulate their thoughts on the unraveling art world and understand the movement in which it is flowing. Philadelphia Salon participants present their newest works to the forum and host a lively conversation centered on their piece. Kunkle also curates art shows to display the works of Salon participants. Kunkle’s Salon creates a community of art and births a consciousness of aesthetic.
